grandbuddy program

There are many great ways to remain active and involved in your community during your retirement years.

Statistics indicate the positive factors that help seniors have longevity during their retirement years. One of the best ways to stay connected in your community and keep your mind and body healthy is volunteering.

Graceful Roots Grandbuddy program is designed to benefit senior citizens and children to share a rewarding bond and keep the elderly active. The program was branded 2023 to include Little Legends After School Academy and children in the Lee County community.

GRGP allows Lee County seniors age 55 and older to engage in volunteer service and to provide one-on-one support to children with academic, social, and emotional development. Grandbuddies assist school-age children with reading and mentor troubled teenagers and young mothers. Volunteer assignments can entail attending children’s extracurricular activities, sports events, fundraisers, being a teacher assistant at one of our Little Legends schools, our childcare assistant, or other opportunities based upon our organization needs, goals, and objectives.

Who is eligible to become a grandbuddy?

Do you love children and have the desire to continue to make an impact in their lives? Well, you do not have to wait any longer. Even if you have grandchildren of your own, a few hours a week can make an outstanding contribution to the life of a child that just might be starving for attention or motivation.

To be eligible for our grandbuddy companion program you must:

  • Enjoy working with infants, toddlers, school age children (5-12 years), and teens
  • Be at least 55 years of age
  • Pass a background check

How to apply:

  • Call 662-372-3843 or visit our physical location (4532 N Gloster Street)
  • Directly connecting with a local partnering organization: Lee county Schools, United Way, Three Rivers Agency On Aging

Grandbuddies are invaluable, although you do not expect compensation when volunteering your time and services. Grandbuddies receive non-monetary compensation and an annual Grandmas dinner.

Being a good GBC is not a job. Therefore you do not have to worry about being lured out of retirement. Since the program is geared towards seniors who are mostly retired or disabled and children that will benefit the most by bonding with their GBC. We strive to make it feasible for grandbuddies to remain active in their communities without having to deal with out-of-pocket expenses.

Each month grandbuddies will have the opportunity to be nominated and receive a nice gift card, which is always a nice perk.

Ready to serve?

The grandbuddy program is new in our community, but we will thrive and rise to make a difference. Success stories will be captured by volunteers, children, community organizations, and leaders, confirming the impact that volunteers have had in the lives of children and families.

The children mentored by a grandbuddy develop a relationship with volunteers that inspire, motivate, and teach them to be their best selves. They are loved and cared for and the senior grandbuddy receives a heart-filled opportunity to stay active and make a difference in training up a child.
